T-Mobile BlackBerry 7100t (November 2004)

In 2004 I was hired to work on the T-Mobile BlackBerry. T-Mobile was going to have an exclusive contract with RIM for 6 months for the 7100 version of the BlackBerry. They wanted to have a new look and feel, something clean, but colorful.

I was the sole graphic designer on the project. I worked with the project manager and his manager to created the user interface as well as the icons. I was given a lot of freedom to create fill the 4 x 3 grid with icons and the device information section.

I created 2 versions of icons for the BlackBerry. They liked the photographic version and also liked the classic theme of the icons.

The thought on the theme was that more people would be able to understand what the classic phone and mailbox would signify, so there would be less confusion with the new design.

The information was prety clean and straightforward approach that had a bit of color as well as a curve in the design that was something that tied into the phone design.
